The first week I was in India a guide referenced a book called Ramayana that is super famous in India and all around the world for that matter but I had never heard of it. Some of the stories that he told us from the book sounded interesting and I had to get my hands on a copy. Strangely, a few hours later I found myself in a store that had a copy. I picked it up and have been reading it for the past few weeks, despite having forgotten it on one of the many planes and waiting 40 minutes to retrieve it.
Ramayana is one of the great Hindu epics that was written around the 4 and 5th century BC. It is a story used to help explain a few of the great Hindu gods. It was my mission to finish this book before I left this country and I just did last night while I was on my houseboat, with only a day to spare! It is such a beautiful story that paints a picture of love, loyalty, service, purity, affection, forgiveness, honor and kindness. In many ways the stories are similar to those in the bible. Would love to see this made into a present day movie done in the style that the Great Gatsby was just made in. It would be a box office success!
